DOUBLE SUCCESS FOR LION CUBS

LEICESTER Lion Cubs produced a couple of dominant performances in their home double-header against Workington to extend their season further.

They were rampant in their National Development League fixture to all-but book their place in the Grand Final with a 61-29 rout over the Comets.

And that was before they sealed their spot in the Knockout Cup Final with a 49-23 success with the second leg cut short after 12 races due to the curfew.

It was an incident packed night with a whole host of thrills and spills, but team manager Dave Howard was relieved to get the job done.

“That was probably the night with more things happening in it since Speedway reopened here in 2011,” he said.

“But on a serious note it was a great couple of performances by the team and it puts us into the cup final and virtually into the play-off final.

“It was a tricky track for everybody to start with and there were lots of incidents but we got there in the end.

“We’ve got two more regular league matches to get in before the cut-off on October 1, we’ve got the Knockout Cup Final to do against Mildenhall home and away and if we get that one more point or other teams drop points, then we’ll have the Grand Final against Oxford too so it’s going to be a busy but exciting end to the season.”
